Dolce & Gabbana Launches Dog Perfume, but Some Vets and Owners Are Not Convinced

It’s Friday

This week, the fashion world is buzzing with Dolce & Gabbana’s latest release: an alcohol-free dog perfume named ‘Fefé,’ inspired by Domenico Dolce’s poodle. Priced at €99 ($108) for a 100ml bottle, this new product has stirred both excitement and skepticism in the pet community.

The perfume is marketed as safe for dogs, complying with Italy’s ‘Safe Pet Cosmetics’ protocol, which aims to ensure the safety of cosmetics for animals. Dolce & Gabbana’s website highlights that the fragrance is gentle and well-received by pets, and some pet owners and groomers are thrilled by the idea, seeing it as a way to add a touch of luxury to their dog’s routine. They argue that a pleasant scent can:

  • Enhance their pet’s overall appearance

  • Add a touch of elegance to their daily life

However, not all reactions have been positive. Several veterinarians have expressed concerns about using perfumes on dogs. They argue that fragrances might:

  • Disrupt a dog’s highly sensitive sense of smell, crucial for their communication and recognition of people and other animals

  • Mask natural odors that could indicate underlying health issues, such as sebaceous dermatitis

For example, covering up these natural smells might complicate diagnoses.

Despite the concerns, some believe that if used responsibly, such products could offer a pleasant experience for both pets and their owners. The debate continues as to whether adding a designer scent to our dogs’ lives is a step forward in pet care or an unnecessary luxury.

What’s your opinion? Would you consider using a designer perfume for your dog, or do you believe that their natural scent is best left untouched? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Have a great day. We chat tomorrow.

Thanks, Ahmed.
